Introduction

There are a lot of different resources here on the MTS website. On this page we have a list of the three key training areas (conviction, character, competence), and under them, the eight learning strands, and under them the 62 learning objectives. For each of the learning objectives we list the relevant resources under each. Books are shown with title and author, workshops are also noted, and the different discussion papers and training exercises are linked to the relevant PDF on the MTS site.


KTA 1 - Conviction

LO1 Bible Study

LO1.01 Explain why the Word of God is reliable.

LO1.02 Demonstrate persistence in the discipline of daily Bible reading.

LO1.03 Demonstrate persistence in the application of the Bible to daily life.

LO1.04 Construct a timeline showing the flow of events in Scripture.

LO1.05 Explain the meaning of specific passages within their immediate context and the whole message of Scripture.

LO2 Thinking theologically

LO2.01 Explain the gospel of God's grace in terms of the elective purposes of God

LO2.02 Explain the gospel of God's grace in terms of the nature of sin

LO2.03 Explain the gospel of God's grace in terms of God's righteous judgment

LO2.04 Explain the gospel of God's grace in terms of the person and work of Christ

LO2.05 Explain the gospel of God's grace in terms of justification by faith.

KTA 2 - Character

LO3 Prayer and godliness

LO3.01 Demonstrate perseverance in daily prayer.

LO3.02 Demonstrate extensive prayer, reflecting God's concerns.

LO3.03 Demonstrate leadership of family and friends in the Word of God and prayer, encouraging them in Christian faith and maturity.

LO3.04 Consciously submit to the Word of God in obedience, making specific changes in thinking, attitude and actions.

LO3.05 Identify ungodly motivations - for example, wanting to preach in order to get attention or praise from people instead of wanting to preach in order to love and serve people.

LO4 Relationships in ministry

LO4.01 Volunteer for unattractive jobs.

LO4.02 Demonstrate ‘going the extra mile' in serving people.

LO4.03 Serve in areas outside of formal responsibilities.

LO4.04 Demonstrate reliability in big and small matters.

LO4.05 Demonstrate a long-term interest in people.

LO6 Teaching the Bible

LO6.01 Exegete and explain a passage of the Bible.

LO6.02 Help individuals make progress in the Christian life by applying the Bible to their lives.

LO6.04 Lead a Bible study discussion.

LO6.05 Give a talk from a passage of the Bible.

LO6.06 When teaching the Bible, apply principles of how people learn.

LO6.07 Lead in church and/or in other gatherings by reading the Bible, chairing meetings, interviewing people and so on.

LO7 Training others in ministry

LO7.01 Recognise people's gifts and therefore in what ministries they should serve.

LO7.02 Train a personal evangelist.

LO7.03 Train an assistant in small group ministry.

LO7.04 Actively identify and coach those who should consider vocational ministry.

LO8 Leadership

LO8.01 Organise how to use their time, make plans and implement them.

LO8.02 Identify their own leadership style, their gifts and their flaws. Adapt a style so that it enhances rather than hinders relationships.
