Metro - Ministry, Equipping, Training & Organisation

The purpose of METRO is to glorify the one true God who has revealed himself in his Son Jesus Christ by training others to make him known, who then train others to do the same.

METRO (scholarship) is a full time ministry training program within a local church where the METRO apprentice is discipled by a trainer experienced in gospel ministry.  This path currently attracts a scholarship of up to $6,000 p.a. paid to the training church by the METRO committee and passed on to the apprentice. This scholarship is only available to Presbyterian churches within NSW and the amount of this scholarship is dependent on the funding received by the committee through the NSW Assembly. The remaining $14000 is made up of Austudy (which if eligible is up to $8500) and $8000 from the apprentice's church and/or supporters.
The METRO committee, at its discretion, may increase the scholarship if the apprentice is not eligible for Austudy.

The METRO committee is looking to support gospel training opportunities where the apprentice is in a Presbyterian Church and has a Presbyterian minister or elder as a trainer or co-trainer. METRO is not just for people wanting to go into ordained ministry but anyone who wants good training for other opportunities, like SRE/Scripture teaching, youth group leading, or women's ministry.

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”  (2 Timothy 2:2 NIV11)

METRO Is shaped by that command of the apostle Paul to Timothy.  Its a command to ensure that the truth of the gospel of Jesus is passed on.  Its a command to invest in reliable people & intentionally train them in gospel ministry.  In the context of 2 Timothy, it's a command to ensure that the gospel, the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, is guarded.

METRO Is a 2 year full time training experience within a local church where the apprentice ( a reliable person)  is discipled by a trainer to able to teach others the gospel.

METRO allows apprentices to be grown in the areas of personal godliness, theological reflection & ministry skills.

METRO doesn’t provide the apprentices.  Apprentices are home grown.  When a local church discerns someone that they would like to invest in and train according to the 2 Timothy 2:2 model, METRO provides the framework & the assistance to help that happen well.  It's important to note that the local church and the trainer are responsible for the training.

METRO is an acronym for Ministry, Equipping, Training & Organisation.

More information about Metro is contained in this video, which was played at the Presbyterian Church NSW General Assembly 2017.
